Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at Sukamade?+
Sukamade is one of Java's last pristine sea turtle nesting beaches inside Meru Betiri National Park. At night, you patrol the beach watching Green and Leatherback turtles nest. At sunrise, hatchlings are released.
Is Sukamade hard to reach?+
Yes β the last section requires 4WD through river crossings and deep jungle tracks. That remoteness is what makes it special.
Do turtles nest every night?+
Activity varies by season and weather. Peak season is OctoberβMarch. Our rangers advise on current activity before departure.
Where do we sleep at Sukamade?+
A simple but clean beach homestay β beds, mosquito nets, cold showers. The experience more than compensates.
Is this suitable for children?+
The turtle watch is suitable for children 8+. The Ijen midnight trek is more demanding β children should be assessed individually.
